Unity Tech

Reviews from Unity Technologies employees about Unity Technologies culture, salaries, benefits, work-life balance, management, job security, and more. This is the official Unity Technologies channel. Unity is a real-time 3D development platform that lets artists, designers and developers work together to create amazing immersive and interactive experiences. We want to help empower our creators to reach their full potential every step of the way.

We offer two different release versions so you can download the solution that best fits your needs. Tech Stream versions give you access to the latest in-progress features, while the LTS version ensures greater stability with two years of support.

Long-Term Support (LTS)

The release for creators who value maximum stability and support for their next project. The LTS version rolls up the quality features and improvements made across the year into a single installation. This is our default release, and is recommended for creators who are about to lock in production on a specific version of Unity.

Released once a year

The last Tech Stream release of the year becomes an LTS release after additional rounds of stabilization for maximum quality.

Supported for two years

Receives continued support for two years following publication, in the form of biweekly updates with bug fixes.

No new features or API changes

Updates address crashes, regression bugs and any major issues, without introducing additional tools or technology.

Tech Stream

The release for creators who value exploring in-progress features to prepare for future projects. This version is primarily recommended for the preproduction, discovery and prototyping phases of development.

Released twice a year

As of the 2020 release cycle, we publish two Tech Stream releases a year. These are typically published in Q1 and Q4.

Supported until next release

Updates and bug fixes are added to the current Tech Stream release on a weekly basis until the next Tech Stream release is officially published.

Features are in progress

Features in the Tech Stream are actively being developed and are shaped by feedback from early adopters.

What is a Tech Stream release?

This release is for creators who value exploring in-progress features to stay on the cutting edge for their next project. This version is primarily recommended for the preproduction discovery, and prototyping phases of development. Learn more about our different releases here.

What’s an LTS release?

The release for creators who value maximum stability and support for their next project. This is our default release and is primarily recommended for creators past the preproduction phase of development and who are about to lock in production on a specific version of Unity.

What’s the difference between a Verified package and a Released package?

In an effort to provide more clarity around package readiness and expected release date, better quality packages, and as a direct response to feedback from you, we’ve created a more rigorous process for labeling packages, as well as a new categorization system. Learn more here.

How do I get access to your alpha and beta releases?

Both our alpha and beta releases are open to everyone, so no signup is required. Get started by downloading them from the Unity Hub. Because there may be feature-stability issues with these early releases, we do not recommend them for projects in production, and we highly recommend that you back up any project before you open it with an alpha or beta release.
